The menú del día in Barcelona costs a median €16.90. That's the figure from the set lunch menus that 254 restaurants in the city published on Appetece between February and September 2026: 1,661 real menus, each with its price and dishes. It's €1.50 more than the €15.40 usually quoted for Catalonia.
This is the first Appetece menú del día report. Here is the data.
Five numbers
- €16.90 is the median price of a menú del día in Barcelona. Half the restaurants charge less, half charge more.
- €6.80 separates the cheapest neighborhood from the most expensive: Les Corts (€14.95) and the Gothic Quarter (€21.75).
- Only 1 in 9 restaurants offers a menu under €13, and 3 in 4 of those belong to chains.
- 3 in 4 restaurants kept the same price from spring to autumn.
- Salad is on the menu at 70% of restaurants. Hummus now appears at more restaurants (20%) than croquetas (17%).
How much a menú del día costs in Barcelona
The middle half of restaurants charge between €14.95 and €20.60. The mean is higher, €18.70, because a tail of upscale lunch menus (€25 to €40) pulls it up. That's why we use the median.

The most common band is €15 to €17, with more than one restaurant in four. The "€10 or €12 menu" that many guides still mention has almost disappeared.

The tourist center is the most expensive place to eat a menú del día. The Gothic Quarter costs €6.80 more per meal than Les Corts. If you eat out every working day, that's about €136 a month.
The Dreta de l'Eixample, the office and Passeig de Gràcia area, is almost level with the Gothic Quarter. The Esquerra, across Carrer de Balmes, charges €4 less.
The cheap menu now belongs to chains
Only 28 of the 254 restaurants (11%) price their menu under €13. 21 of those 28 are branches of five casual-dining chains (pizza, burgers, milanesas).
The neighborhood menu at €11 or €12, with starter, main, dessert and a drink, is fading from our data. Independent restaurants now sit between €14 and €18.
Have prices gone up this year?
Less than you might think. We followed 50 restaurants that published a menu both in spring (February to April) and in summer and autumn (July to September):
- 37 (74%) kept exactly the same price.
- 10 (20%) raised it, almost always by between 10 cents and €1.60.
- 3 (6%) lowered it.
Restaurants prefer not to touch prices mid-year. The next edition of this report, in January, will show whether the new-year increase arrives.
What's on a menú del día in Barcelona
We counted how many restaurants served each dish at least once:

Three details:
- Salad and the soup of the day are the default starters: they show up at more than half the restaurants.
- Hummus (20%) has overtaken croquetas (17%) and ensaladilla (16%). It's the clearest sign of how the menu has changed in recent years.
- Crema catalana appears at only 14% of restaurants. For dessert, fruit wins (44%), followed by ice cream and chocolate.
Methodology
- Sample: 254 restaurants in the city of Barcelona that published at least one menú del día on Appetece between 26 January and 28 September 2026. 1,661 menus in total.
- Price: for each restaurant we take the median of its menus, then the median across restaurants. A restaurant that publishes every day weighs the same as one that publishes once a month. We discard prices under €8 or over €40 (50 menus), which aren't menús del día.
- Neighborhoods and districts: we only show those with at least 13 restaurants (neighborhoods) or 15 (districts). El Raval, Poble-sec and Sants still have samples that are too small.
- Price changes: only restaurants with menus in both periods count.
- Dishes: a dish counts once per restaurant, even if it's served many days.
- Limits: the sample is restaurants that use Appetece, not a census of the whole city. The Eixample is over-represented (92 restaurants). Hostelería de España uses a different method, so the comparison is indicative.
