Menú del día price in Spain (2026): €14.20 average set lunch

The menú del día costs €14.20 on average in Spain. That is the figure from the latest report by Hostelería de España and Edenred, published in November 2025 with data from that September. But the average hides a lot: from €13 in the Canary Islands to €16 in the Balearic Islands, and in a city like Barcelona the typical menu is already above €16.90.

If you eat the menú del día every working day, that comes to around €300 a month. It pays to know what a fair price looks like.

How much the menú del día costs in Spain

The menú del día is Spain's set lunch: a fixed-price weekday meal served in bars and restaurants. Its average price in Spain is €14.20, 1.5% more than the year before (€14). Since 2016, when it cost €11.70, it has gone up 21%.

In 2025, 7 in 10 restaurants raised the price of their menu, almost always by a little: the largest group raised it by between 2% and 3%. The menú del día rises more slowly than the rest of the menu because its customers are the ones who watch prices most closely: people who eat out every day.

• A drink (water, soft drink, beer or a glass of wine)

Between the most expensive region and the cheapest there is €3 per menu: at 21 meals a month, that is €63 of difference. The Balearic Islands, the Basque Country and Extremadura did not raise prices in 2025.

Menú del día price in Barcelona

In Barcelona, the menú del día costs a median of €16.90. That is Appetece's figure, calculated from the menus published by 276 restaurants in the city, with their price and dishes, updated to October 2026. Half of the restaurants charge between €15 and €21.

That is more than the industry surveys say: €15.40 for Catalonia in 2025 and €15.10 for the city in the 2024 survey. The difference lies in the method: we don't ask, we count the menus that are actually published.

Within the city, the neighbourhood matters more than the region: there is a €7 gap between the median in the Gòtic (€22) and in Sants-Montjuïc (€14.99). Menú del día price in Madrid

The Community of Madrid averages €14.50 according to the 2025 report, and the city came out at €14.80 in the 2024 survey. Across the 38 restaurants in Madrid that publish their menu on Appetece, the median is €15.50: still a small sample, and one that will keep growing.

The most and least expensive cities

The 2025 report does not give prices by city. The latest are from the September 2024 survey:

Bilbao was the most expensive city for a menú del día, and Valencia and Las Palmas the cheapest.

Why the menú del día keeps going up

• Ingredients: oil, meat and fish are still expensive.
• Energy and staff: kitchens use a lot of electricity and gas, and hospitality wages have gone up.
• Inflation: in August 2026, prices for food and drink services were rising 4.4% year on year, almost the same as overall CPI (4.3%), according to the INE.

Even so, the menú del día rises less than the à la carte menu: if it gets too expensive, it loses the people who eat out every day. Many restaurants would rather adjust portions or simplify dishes than touch the price. We look at that balance in is the menú del día in danger of extinction?

What the menú del día must include (and what the law says)

• There is no national menú del día law. The 1965 order that created the «menú turístico» (tourist menu) was repealed in 2010. No restaurant is required to offer one.
• Asturias and Castile and León do define it by decree: at least two courses, bread, a drink and dessert for a single price.
• In the rest of Spain, the restaurant has to make clear what the price includes.
• The advertised price is the final price, with VAT included (10% in hospitality).
• Tap water is free in bars and restaurants since Law 7/2022.

How much eating the menú del día costs per month

Counting 21 working days a month:

If your employer gives you meal vouchers (ticket restaurante), they are exempt from income tax (IRPF) up to €11 per working day: with a €14.20 menu, you pay €3.20 out of your own pocket. We explain it in meal vouchers and the menú del día.

How to pay less for the menú del día

Change neighbourhood, not quality. Within the same city there is more difference between neighbourhoods than between regions: in Barcelona, €7 between the Gòtic and Sants-Montjuïc.

Be wary of the €10 menu. In Barcelona, only 1 in 10 restaurants goes below €13, and most of those are chains.

Make every meal count. If you eat the menú del día several times a week, the biggest saving isn't finding the cheapest menu: it's making every meal add up.
