L'Hospitalet de Llobregat is Catalonia's second city: 292,952 inhabitants as of the end of 2025, and one of the fastest-growing in Spain (+2.9% in a year). It's glued to Barcelona, fifteen minutes by metro from Plaça Espanya, and it never comes up in conversations about where to eat.
That's an easy mistake to fix. We've just added 125 restaurants from L'Hospitalet to Appetece, and what comes out is more interesting than the place's reputation suggests.

Data updated in real time from Appetece
If you have to pick one, Rico (Avinguda del Metro) is number one by a margin: 9.6 out of 10 with over 2,700 reviews, an Argentine grill. That volume of opinions in a city that doesn't live off tourism means one thing: locals go, again and again.
Behind it come Planes (9.5), Sabors (9.5, healthy cooking), Malkoa (9.4, Mediterranean fusion), Carn d'Olla (9.4) and El Farolito (9.4, on Plaça de Milagros Consarnau i Sabaté).
What people eat here
The catalogue's breakdown tells the neighborhood's story better than any description:
| Cuisine | Restaurants |
|---|---|
| Spanish | 69 |
| Mediterranean | 64 |
| Italian | 15 |
| Latin American | 15 |
| Pizza | 14 |
| Catalan | 12 |
| Grill / steakhouse | 10 |
| Asian | 9 |
Two layers dominate. The first is what you'd expect: traditional Spanish and Catalan cooking, casas de comidas, grills. The second is what makes L'Hospitalet different from tourist Barcelona: an enormous Latin American and Galician layer, inherited from the waves of migration that built the city.
That's where Casa Galega de l'Hospitalet sits, with 2,411 reviews — one of the most-reviewed restaurants in our entire metropolitan-area catalogue. And A' Lareira de Ancares, Antoxo (Carrer de Buenos Aires) and El Trisquel (Carrer del Llobregat) round out the Galician block.
On the American side: Chalito (Argentine, 743 reviews), El arriero, La Rosa Púrpura and El chonero (Ecuadorian). Plus one rarity worth the trip: Sabor de Etiopía, on Avinguda del Doctor Ramon Solanich i Riera, essentially the only Ethiopian place in the area.
The neighborhood classics
Some restaurants people search for by name, no listicle needed. In L'Hospitalet, these:
- Can Joan — Mediterranean casa de comidas, one of the most searched in the city.
- Can Valverde — 1,488 reviews and an 8.8. Mediterranean with a healthy bent.
- Casa Galega de l'Hospitalet — the Galician benchmark, with seafood and Galician cooking without flourishes.
- Bar Serra — a pure neighborhood bar, 768 reviews.
- LaPepa — long-standing Mediterranean, 472 reviews.
- Restaurante Lepanto — 9.3 rating, one of the highest-scoring in the city.
Five plans, depending on what you fancy
Grilled meat. The city's strongest block. Rico leads, with El Farolito, Chalito and El arriero behind it. Ten grills out of 125 restaurants is a high ratio, and it's no accident: it's the neighborhood's Argentine and Uruguayan imprint.
Seafood and Galician cooking. Casa Galega de l'Hospitalet, A' Lareira de Ancares, Antoxo and A Ruta Galega. Octopus, empanada, seafood by weight. The choice for a long Sunday lunch.
Fast and healthy. Sabors (9.5) and Can Valverde lean towards healthy cooking without collapsing into salad-only territory. A good weekday lunch option.
Home cooking. Can Joan, Planes, Carn d'Olla, Restaurante Lepanto and LaPepa. Mediterranean casas de comidas, stews and spoon dishes, contained prices. It's what the city actually eats.
Something less predictable. Malkoa for fusion, Sabor de Etiopía for something you won't find in Barcelona at this price, Maydo for neighborhood Japanese.
Most sit in the €€-€€€ price band: this isn't a city of expensive restaurants, and the bill shows it.
Why you won't see menús del día here yet
Time to be straight, because Appetece is about menús del día and in L'Hospitalet we don't have a single one.
We have the 125 listings: name, rating, cuisine, photos, location. What we don't have yet is today's menu for any of them. In Barcelona we publish around 170 daily menus because we've spent two years collecting them, restaurant by restaurant. In L'Hospitalet we've just arrived.
So this guide is what it is: a directory of restaurants with real ratings, not a list of menús del día. We'd rather say so than have you walk down Carrer de Buenos Aires expecting a blackboard we haven't confirmed.
If you run a restaurant in L'Hospitalet and publish a menú del día, that's a quick fix — and free.
Getting there from Barcelona
L'Hospitalet is better connected than plenty of Barcelona neighborhoods. L1 stops at Rambla Just Oliveras, Can Serra and Av. Carrilet; L5 at Pubilla Cases, Can Vidalet and Collblanc; and L9/L10 cross the city on the way to the airport. From Plaça Espanya it's fifteen minutes.
That matters for lunch: for the price of a mediocre menu in Sants or Hostafrancs, you eat clearly better here. And the border between the two cities is a street, not a journey.
If you're coming from the Barcelona side, we have Sants and the menú del día by neighborhood guide to compare prices before crossing. And if you just want whatever's closest today, the menú del día near me guide will sort the search for you.
L'Hospitalet has spent decades feeding 290,000 people well without anyone outside noticing. It's fifteen minutes away.
